What
Is Wine?
| |
|
|
| |
|
| |
|
|
| Many red wines
and some whites,
together with
vintage champagnes,
are aged in
order to bring
out their
richness and
depth of character.
Occasionally,
sulfites are
added as a
preservative.
Tannins (a
property imparted
to the wine
through grape
skins) contribute
to the structure
of red wines
and enable
them to age
better than
white wines.
Examples of
ageworthy
grapes include
Cabernet Sauvignon,
Merlot, Nebbiolo,
and Pinot
Noir, especially
Pinot Noir
from the Burgundy
region of
France. Making
red wines
intended to
be consumed
young is an
increasingly
popular trend. |
